Pickett Solar offers exceptional service and experience
Pickett Solar was started in 2008 as a division of Don Pickett and Associates, Inc., a local construction company based in Fresno. The business is family owned and operated and has been involved in the industry for more than 40 years.
The construction business was founded as a design-build company, focusing primarily on commercial buildings and industrial parks. Pickett Solar took the same design-build principles and applied them to the solar business. The whole process is managed in-house, by a professional team that understands how to build an efficient, well thought out design.
“Pickett Solar began to get involved in agricultural projects in 2012,” said Mike Pickett, owner of Pickett Solar. “Over the last four years, agriculture has become a big part of our business.”
Mike Pickett joined his father, Don, in the business in 1999, gaining experience in running jobs as a superintendent. In 2004, the father and son began working side-by-side. After 10 years, in 2009, Mike and his wife, Tara, purchased the business from his father.
Pickett Solar focuses on commercial projects and has worked with dairymen, packers, growers, golf courses, and more. The company has installed one of the largest roof mount arrays in the nation at SunWest Fruit Co.
“In agriculture, meter aggregation is really big,” explained Mike. “Credits are logged on one meter then digitally applied to agricultural wells in other spots. Farmers are now able to install one large system which is more economical and adds flexibility. The usage on wells can change; meter aggregation gives farmers the ability to adjust where their solar production is applied.”
A big niche for Pickett Solar is the tracker system. These systems add 25 percent more production over a fixed system. Pickett Solar believes in quality; they offer the highest quality products to customers, they use the highest quality manufacturers and installation equipment, they try to be conservative with finances and educate customers so they see the value in solar and understand their investment.
Pickett Solar’s territory covers the Central Valley, from Bakersfield to Modesto, and out to the West side. Depending on the size of the project, installation will run from three months to 12 months. The company provides employment for 19 individuals.
Pickett Solar is unique because the design-build characteristic is not common. The company continues to be family owned, is local and will stand behind their projects.
Pickett Solar became a FCFB Friends of the Family Farm premium member because it was important to the family. They believe in the organization and its value to the agricultural industry.
